Well, I just came back to Jakarta after a few days in Bali and I must admit to a bit of culture shock. I like the Menteng area because it’s near the office district and sometimes everybody has to work a little. But when you get in a taxi and start heading to Menteng you feel like you’re entering Dante’s Inferno.
I mean, you just came out of the sky and it’s wide open up there. And you’re headed to into the *very center* of this massive 17-million person glump of stuff. And it’s hard to get there.
But once you’re in there for a couple days you unwind, resize the mental pic, start to enjoy the trees, open space, and the fact that you don’t have to drive anywhere. On a cool night with a breeze, moon and some frogs or crickets — you could be anywhere.
These pics were taken Saturday morning around 10 am after a good rain. This is the greenest time of year.
